Early AI Experiment

Our Year Ahead

The Inspiration

For New Year’s, my wife asked everyone in the family to create a presentation about their goals for the coming year. Each of the kids presented, with some of them experimenting with AI slide tools along the way.

I had to make a presentation too, so I used the assignment as an opportunity to explore several of the creative AI tools that were becoming available. The result was part family presentation, part multimedia experiment, and a great deal of trial and error.

The Video

How It Came Together

I used ChatGPT to brainstorm ideas for the narration and help shape the script. I created the presentation slides in PowerPoint and exported them as images, then used ElevenLabs to turn the narration script into an audio track. I used RunwayML to generate a number of short video clips and combined the slides, narration, and generated footage in iMovie.

This was one of my earlier attempts at bringing several AI tools together into a single finished project. Much of the process involved experimenting, seeing what worked, revising what did not, and learning how the pieces could fit together.

Tools Used

What I Learned

The individual tools could each produce something useful, but they did not produce the finished story. The real work was in deciding what to keep, creating a coherent sequence, matching the visuals to the narration, and getting the pacing to feel right.

It also gave me an early appreciation for how quickly an idea could move from a conventional slide presentation to something much more personal and engaging, even if reaching that point still required plenty of human judgment and trial and error.
